Games candidate Essay Example for Free

Games candidate Essay I begin my warm up by doing a gentle jog for approximately 3 minutes ( more if necessary) to increase my heart rate to around 120 beats per minute (bpm)  Then I do a lap of the pitch alternating forward and backwards jogging.  I then do a width of the pitch doing side steps.  Afterwards I will do a few ball skills to get my focus.  Stretches  Ankles: Loosen my ankles by lifting my right leg and rotating my foot clockwise and then anticlockwise for several seconds. Repeat with the left leg. Calves: Keeping my right foot firmly straight on the ground, take a stride forward with my left leg and bend my left knee. Repeat with left leg.  Stomach: lie down with my hands by my shoulders in the press-up position. Raise waist off the ground using my stomach muscles, and repeat several times. Stand up straight with your legs apart and muscles relaxed. Put your hands on your hips, and swing clockwise with your hips in a circular motion. Repeat going anticlockwise.  Shoulders: Bring arms behind my back, keeping them together, and stretch backward. Neck: turn chin to left shoulder hold 8 secs, right shoulder hold 8 secs, upwards hold 8 secs downwards for 5 secs.  Arms: place hands together fingers entwined and stretch forward  Hamstrings: Both feet flat on floor. Left knee bent, right knee straight in front. Lift toes upwards. Repeat with alternate legs.  Groin: Legs shoulder width apart horizontally bend left leg and lean to the left repeat with the left leg  After my exercises have been completed I need to warm down because our muscles can only cope with so much exercise in a period of time. If our muscles are vigorously worked they suffer an oxygen debt; if they are not given time to recover then an injury may occur. There may be a collection of lactic acid which a cool down can wear off; the lactic acid would be from the anaerobic training For my warm down I will do a 2-3 minute light jog and then 5 10 mins of stretching paying special attention to muscles used. (Repeat warm up however taking more time) Completing static stretches will help in improving my variety of movement.  APPROPRIATENESS OF CHOSEN EXERCISES  As football requires all of the leg muscles to be strong I decided to work specifically on them. All of my exercises work the leg muscles accordingly ensuring that they all have the adequate amount of stress inflicted upon them. The bike and the rowing machine is a race against the clock to do as many reps as possible, therefore will increase my speed and also my strength in all of my leg muscles: especially my quadriceps. The rowing and static stretches will help me increase my power in order to apply it to various areas of football. Flexibility is increased by dynamic stretches; more flexibility means more movement at the hip joint so therefore more power behind the ball when kicked. More flexibility could reduce the risk of pulling ligaments and tendons. The exercises will strengthen my muscles in order to fight off muscle fatigue and lactic acid. I chose to perform the distance run as I knew that my main area of weakness was my stamina. From my pre-test scores I could easily see that my bleep test score was very low; in comparison to what I thought I was able to achieve.  I thought that with a football match lasting 70 mins this season and me only just managing to last the full match, I would struggle next season when the time increases by a further 10 mins. As football demands both aerobic and anaerobic capacity I thought that doing a distance run, would help me improve both: as both require an athlete to sprint powerfully; recover quickly then sprint powerfully again; because of this I knew my breathing would generally improve.  My post tests scores are clear evidence that both my aerobic and anaerobic capacity improved: my bleep test especially showed this as I improved from 5.5 to 6.2.

The United States as a Global Police Force :: International Police Force

If you had to choose a nation to take on the power of protecting the world basically as a global police force who would you choose to take on this big responsibility? Well most of the countries are choosing the U.S. well the troops feel different on this topic they feel like it is not our duty to try and solve everyone else’s problem. They also need to help with issues that this is needed and we are the best trained and best equipped to react to any scenario. Because the united states is making two new brigades that are trained to resolve issues without violence and to depend more on social skills but still trained well enough to fight in a pinch, and we have thousands of troops deployed already as peacekeepers which are basically global police. So we already have a start on the job but what about the cost who is gonna even the costs so we arent losing money. But is the cost of all this worth it the cost of human lives worth everyone elses protection how do the men in unifor m feel about being a global cop when there country is not in harm some of them feel like this â€Å"troops have a hard time dealing with the fact that their missions represent no clear threat to our national interests making it more difficult for them to be separated from their families for long periods of time†. (O’Meara) As stated before some soldiers feel this is not there job they did not join the military to be a cop they joined to be a soldier and protect their freedom no one elses. They think that a global police force would be a good thing but they want it to be a job you sign up for cause they just want their freedom to be protected cause they think it is not what they signed on for. The reason in the past 20-25 years this has become a big deal because of the past terrorist attacks, so they want to keep the terrorist groups under control. The next issue that came up is our defense budget, if we became the global police force then it would cost us a lot of money like it already does â€Å"the U.S. defense debt is more than $280 billion more than $1000 for every man, woman, and child in the united states†.

Japanese Food, Culture, and the Tanabata Festival

The Soba Incident by Duncan Dixon Moving to a new country and meeting a new culture always has the potential for incidents that are embarrassing at the time, but humorous later. The following incident happened to me several weeks after I arrived in Japan. I was in Odawara around noon and I decided I wanted to have some  ebi soba. I found a restaurant display that looked good and, because I could not speak Japanese, carefully copied down the characters under the display, on a piece of paper. I went into the restaurant and gave the paper to the waitress. She read it, gave a nod, and pointed me to a seat at a table in the middle of the restaurant. A lacquer box topped with soba soon appeared. It came with a bowl of broth leaving me with the problem of what to do with the broth. I knew I had to get the noodles and broth together somehow. I debated with myself for a few minutes, do I pick up the noodles and dip them, or pour the broth over the noodles? I finally came up with what seemed a suitable solution — pour half the broth over the noodles.I did this and watched to my dismay as the sauce ran our of the bottom of the noodles, across the table, and began dripping onto the floor. The other customers looked at me with thinly disguised amusement and I began to wish I had ordered something simple like katsu-don. About this time the waitress appeared and looked at me and the mess I had made. She disappeared into the kitchen and came back with a fork. By now I was completely embarrassed. I ate quickly and discovered the reason for my problem — the bamboo mat so cleverly hidden under the soba.I paid my bill and fled. To this day one thing puzzles me; I never did get the shrimp that were supposed to be on top of the soba. My First Tanabata  by Duncan Dixon * Read the two versions of my paragraph about Tanabata. * Which is for readers unfamiliar with Japan and which is for readers who know Japan? Version 1 Every July when the Tanabata festival arrives, I remember my first Tanabata. Tanabata is the Star Festival, traditionally celebrated in Japan July 7. In some cities people hang elaborate decorations from bamboo poles. To the poles they also attach papers on which they have written their wishes. Some friends told me that Tanabata in Hiratsuka was worth seeing so I took the bus downtown. I had been living in Japan for about nine months and didn't speak much Japanese yet. The downtown area was packed and I was constantly bumping into people. As I was making my way through the crowd, my hand brushed the shoulder of a young girl about three years old who was walking with her mother. Without looking up at me, the girl reached up and took my hand. Immediately, I was in a quandry. If she looks up and sees whose hand she has, she'll panic and start crying, but if I pull away quickly, she may also look up and panic. If her mother sees I have her by the hand, how can I explain what has happened? I'll be arrested for attempted kidnapping. All t hese thoughts rushed into my head as I walked along. Finally, after a few more metres, I was able to release my hand from the grasp of my escort and melt away into the crowd, undiscovered. Even today, the thought of what might have happened, makes me shiver. Version 2 Every July when the Tanabata festival arrives, I remember my first Tanabata. It was the year I was almost involved in an international incident. Some friends told me that Tanabata in Hiratsuka was worth seeing so I took the bus downtown. I had been living in Hatano, Kanagawa for about nine months and didn't speak much Japanese yet.
